Cartoon Ferret
Here is a little guy I carved in White cedar. This is great stuff to do some quick carving in . It cuts like butter and is really easy to play arround with. I had a lot of fun doing this carving and as soon as I can get my hands on some more cedar, I am going to try a bunch more ideas.
Spirit face in Walnut
Here is a Beautiful piece of walnut that was dying to be a spirit face. I originally carved this with a chainsaw as a quick carve and made a mold of it. an produce reproductions from the mold. I then decided that the wood was so beautiful that it really needed to be carved in finer detail. So here is
the final reworked product.
My Dog Wood
I watched BearClaw Jack from Michigan make one of these this summer. I figured I would have a go at it . I like the simplicity of it, now I just have to figure out the minimum amount of detail/shape and still make it more life like. With a little refinement, it will make a great door stop or garden piece. I will try making more this winter.
First Dragon carving
Here is my first dragon. The wood is Catalpa (large leafs with large bean/vanila) and is amazing to work with. It seems to be medium hard and holds detail very well. I entered the dragon in the 2004 Chippingaway wood carving contest and won first place, beginers class. Not bad considering I only started carving in Nov 2003!
